Cusco

DAY 01

The Welcome Orientation marks the official start of the Expedition on October 28th at 6:00 PM and will be held at our hotel followed by dinner.

*Guests who arrive early will have the option to meet for lunch at the hotel at 1:00 PM and take a walking tour of Cusco's Historic City Center.

Sacsayhuaman and Q'enqo

DAY 02

We will begin our journey at Sacsayhuaman, an Incan ceremonial fortress located 2 km north of Cusco, perched high above the city. Built with massive megalithic stone walls, Sacsayhuaman is considered by many to be the greatest architectural work accomplished by the Inca Empire during its heyday. Marvel at the massive stone walls, a testament to the engineering prowess of the ancients.

After a morning of exploration, we will continue on to explore the fascinating site of Q’enqo in the afternoon. This mysterious site is one of the largest huacas (pre-Columbian places of worship) in Cusco and features a number of intricate underground passageways. Here, amidst the rugged landscape, discover ancient ceremonial spaces and intricate carvings, each whispering tales of a bygone era.

Coricancha, Temple of the Moon, and Temple of the Monkeys

DAY 03

In the morning, enjoy an exclusive, private tour of Coricancha, the revered Incan Temple of the Sun. Explore into its sacred chambers, once adorned with gold and precious jewels, and unravel the mysteries of this incredible place. In the afternoon, venture into the tranquil outskirts of Cusco to explore the Temple of the Moon and Temple of the Monkeys. Amidst the natural beauty of the surroundings, contemplate the spiritual significance of these ancient sites. 

Tambomachay

Zona X, Tambomachay, and Puca Pucara

DAY 04

Unravel the enigmas of Sacsayhuaman's mysterious Zona X, a little-visited site where legends intertwine with history. Traverse the rugged terrain, uncovering hidden chambers and sacred sites along the way. After a morning of exploration, we’ll continue our journey to the sites of Tambomachay and Puca Pucara. Here you’ll discover intricate water fountains and ceremonial baths that are a testament to the engineering prowess of the ancients. As twilight falls, return to Cusco for a delectable dinner, savoring the flavors of Andean cuisine amidst the warmth of good company.

Tipón, Pikillacta, and Andahuaylillas

DAY 05

Today we'll explore the lesser-known archaeological wonders of the Southern Valley, each offering a unique glimpse into the mysterious history of the region. First you’ll visit Tipon, renowned for its impressive terraced hillsides and intricate irrigation systems, showcasing some of the most impressive engineering found in Cusco. Next, we'll have the chance to visit the expansive ruins of Pikillacta, where ancient adobe structures sprawl across the landscape, as well as the nearby gate of Rumicolca, where massive stone gateways stand as silent sentinels against the passage of time. Finally we’ll visit the small town of Andahuaylillas to see the mysterious Wayki skeleton and enjoy some commentary from its discoverer before heading back to Cusco for the evening.

Chinchero and Moray

DAY 06

Today we’ll head to the Sacred Valley to discover the sites of Chinchero and Moray, where ancient agricultural terraces and intricate ruins await. Explore the mesmerizing geometry of Moray's circular terraces, whose exact purpose is still unknown. Then, journey to the nearby Maras Salt Mines, where cascading pools of salt glisten in the sunlight, a mesmerizing sight to behold. As the day draws to a close, return to Cusco, where a delicious dinner awaits before heading back to the hotel for the evening.

Pisac

DAY 07

Today we head to the town of Pisac, where we will visit one of the most important sites in the Sacred Valley. We will spend time exploring the main archaeological site before we take an optional detour for the adventurous to Pisac’s little-visited megalithic zone (requires 1-2 hours of walking total). Traverse the rugged landscape, where ancient ruins are perched above the nearby town, each offering a glimpse into the mysteries of the past. As evening falls, we’ll make our way back to Cusco where we will enjoy a delicious dinner before spending the rest of the evening resting.

Ollantaytambo

Ollantaytambo, Incamisana, and Ñaupa Iglesia

DAY 08

Today we’ll journey deeper into the heart of the Sacred Valley with visits to Ollantaytambo, Incamisana, and the portal of Ñaupa Iglesia. Ollantaytambo, a well-preserved archaeological site and town, features impressive terraces, ceremonial platforms, and labyrinthine streets, all set against the stunning backdrop of the surrounding mountains. Incamisana, a lesser-known archaeological site, reveals intricate water channels and agricultural terraces that hint at a vibrant past. The day concludes with a visit to the portal of Ñaupa Iglesia, an enigmatic rock formation adorned with mysterious carvings at the mouth of a cave. As the evening sets in, we will be immersed in the traditions of the Andean people with a special Killa Raymi (Incan moon festival) ceremony, celebrating the full moon with music, dance, and a delicious dinner.

Machu Picchu

DAY 09

On our last day of exploration, we'll enjoy an unforgettable journey to Machu Picchu, one of the most iconic archaeological sites in the world. Board a scenic train to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu, where we'll enjoy lunch before ascending to the ancient citadel. We’ll arrive at Machu Picchu during the final entrance time, allowing us to explore the site when it's less crowded, and savor the tranquility of this awe-inspiring place. Wander through the ancient ruins, marveling at the precision of the stonework and the breathtaking natural beauty that surrounds us. After our exploration, we'll return to Aguas Calientes for a well-deserved dinner before boarding the train back to Cusco.

DAY 10

Take the morning to relax, pack, and reflect on our journey before transferring to the airport for your flight. There are no activities/site visits scheduled on this day and is considered the day of departure.

The Welcome Orientation marks the start of the trip on Tuesday, October 28th at 6:00 PM and will be held at our hotel followed by dinner. Lunch (1:00 PM) followed by a walking tour of Cusco's Historic City Center is offered at no extra cost for those who have arrived early.

The expedition ends on Thursday, November 6th; there are no activities/site visits scheduled on this day and is considered the day of departure.

Yes, all accommodations and meals are included with the exception of alcoholic beverages.

If you would like to arrive before October 28th or depart after November 6th, hotel accommodations can either be arranged on your own (running the risk of changing rooms) or through us (reach out to Eden Viza at eden@robertedwardgrant.com).

This is an adults only trip; minimum age requirement is 18 years old.

Citizens of many countries are permitted to travel to Peru without a visa. Please check with your local Peruvian Consulate for entry requirements and regulations applying to your citizenship.

All tours throughout the expedition will only be given in English by English-speaking guides.
